Overview
A modern digital presence and industrial product catalogue portal developed for a leading structural steel manufacturing enterprise. The application delivers real-time access to technical mill test specifications, structural engineering calculators, product brochures, and an interactive request-for-quotation (RFQ) inquiry pipeline connecting commercial buyers with regional sales representatives.
Problem
Buyers specifying structural steel need mill test figures and product specifications before they can commit, and were asking for them by phone and email. Commercial enquiries worth following up were scattered across inboxes, and the ones that reached the wrong person quietly went nowhere.
My role
Full stack developer — built content APIs, dealer inquiry pipelines, security hardening, and Linux server deployment.
Architecture
Express.js and Hapi.js backend APIs over a MySQL database, client-facing Angular interface, with security hardening and Linux server management.
Key challenge
Everything here is public and therefore exposed: the catalogue, the calculators and an enquiry form that anyone on the internet can submit, which makes hardening and abuse handling part of building it rather than a step afterwards. The engineering calculators also have to agree with the published specifications, because a buyer sizing a member against a wrong figure is a problem no disclaimer covers.
Result
Technical specifications, mill test data, brochures and structural calculators are available to buyers directly, and requests for quotation reach the regional sales representative as a tracked enquiry instead of an email somebody has to remember.
